Re-adding a Node to 800xA without re-installing Windows

In 800xA 6.0.3, we have one Client Node that was, by error, deleted from the System Setup in Configuration Console. Re-adding the Node does not work as the state shows "Invalid".

This is so far correct so we tried to manually remove all 800xA Software, delete c:\ProgramData\ABB, then re-run the Node Preparation Tool to get the initial state. From installed Software it is now exactly the same as a new Node.

However the System Setup still considers it "Invalid" and, it seems, somehow remembers the Node was already added earlier.

Is there any way to re-add the Node via Configuration Console without having to re-install Windows?

A lot of issues stem from trying a second load. Some options (read complex options) simply only load once. We only have a System Installer, no "uninstaller".

Therefore, a hidden token is put on a computer when added to prevent a "quick wash" and new attempts.

I suggest contacting Supportline.

We do recommend keeping drive image backups to be able to restore a "virgin" image in case a reload becomes a necessity.

this is just standard 800xA with AC800M Connect, without any "complex" options.
Anyway would be great to allow "replace" a node that is invalid or that is not existing (= was deleted earlier)...

I can only agree. It was easier in previous versions, reloading a bad software package was possible. You only needed the media.

With version 6, the installation is unattended (even if you can remove/add MSI packages manually) and scripted.

A lot of support is spent on cases where the load is attempted numerous of times and the previous is not properly removed.

It has been said it is "virtually impossible" to clean all software kits to prepare for a second load attempt.

But if RTDB or SQL Server does not load twice, why prevent a "reload" of a simple client computer?

As of now, you get one attempt - and if it fails you are best off by loading a "virgin" drive image of the machine.

Don't outrule filing a support case.

Removing node from Scc/config wizard and try to add same node again Scc shows invalid (even I observed).
Only option to recover node is load the clone image and do replace node from Scc.
Tried other ways as deleting repository but some where reg keeping files hence best is go for fresh clone

As said, SCC attempts to block subsequent attempt to deploy.

Just because you have managed to remove all visible software does not mean you are back on square one and can try a new load.

Some software leave stuff deep inside which may prevent a second load.

For this exact reason SCC is denying a second attempt.

Please try to do as recommended: take drive image BEFORE installing 800xA.

Even after wiping a machine, there is a registry key i found that needs deleting.

They moved the key from SV5 to SV5.1. Search the registry for "systemmodules" and after a few hits you should eventually find something under wow6432node called AFW and under that "systems". under the "systems" key delete anything except the {FFFFFFF...} key.

@Stefan

I think that this problem is quite annoying.
It is always a good idea to use during 800xA installation phase so-called disk image software. There is no question about it. But it's time consuming. And if you have domain controller in the system you may enter into more problems.

When the 800xA system is handed over to the client it was a common procedure in v5 to remove and re-add a node to the system in order to get rid of connection problems. This is not possible anymore via system configuration console. The question is why. Is this being fixed in the future releases?

We understand, that the old configuration wizard is being replaced step by step by the system configuration console and actually the complete installation procedure has been improved a lot.

Do you suggest to remove and re-add a client to the system by the old configuration wizard instead?

Thanks for your attention.
