Problems integrating a third-party OPC DA server that is running on a non-system server

I have a third-party OPC DA server running on a Windows 7 machine that is not in any domain. I want to read data from it using a OPC connector in a 800xA system.

Now, from the 800xA system/connectivity server, I'm not able to read any live data from the OPC server. But I can read all the tags (structure, tag names, data types etc.) from it. There is no "quality bad" indication.

I figure this is some sort of DCOM issue. What I did was I created a *local* account on the Windows 7 machine that has a user name and password identical to the service user in the 800xA domain. Then I set the appropriate DCOM settings for that user for the OPC server. But clearly that wasn't enough.

Was I supposed to also create a *local* user on the connectivity server, that also has a user name and password identical to the service user in the 800xA domain?

e: Honestly, you can fight DCOM issues for days and still never get it working. What you're are trying to typically doesnt work and never will. You can either ...

1. Put the OPC Server inside the domain on an 800xA Node ( pretty much guaranteed to work)

2. Buy a tunneller. ( will work but likely continue to be a PITA )

Check the answer associated with the following link that also is in AKS .

This will explain the Third-Party OPC integration along with configuration of DCOM at the end of this section in the manual.

Bidirectional DCOM permission are required since OPC DA Connector service uses asynchronous methods. See attached document.
