Freelance: Loading changed task without prompt to stop it

Hello everyone

While (re-)loading an entire task in Freelance Engineering (v9.1, Control Builder F) something strange happened and I'd like opinions if this is intended behaviour or not.

One task in this Freelance system had to be extended with more programs, but the process image was full. So I increased the process image in the task configuration (from 8 to 16 KB). This was the only change.

As expected, the task node and all other nodes below it (program lists, programs) turned yellow which means "task must be stopped while loading". Using "show selected objects" indicated that all programs had been invalidated which also is to be expected.

Normally, when selecting "load changed objects" on a yellow task node, there is a prompt to stop the task in order to proceed loading the changes.

What actually happened is that there was no prompt whatsoever and the loading progressed while the task was running. This created some "interesting" effects in the process instead of just freezing all signals.

Is this behaviour expected or have I encountered a bug? Is there any gain in reporting this to ABB support?

Thanks and best regards

Björn

Hello Björn,

the observed behavior is definitely worth being reported to ABB support.

The required stop has obviously been detected correctly in the FE, but during the download the controller has not honoured this information. Is the event log of the controller available? Can you reproduce the issue?

Best regards

Jürgen

Hello Jürgen

Thanks for the quick response. I've saved the diagnostic information from the web interface and will report the case. In case you're interested I could send them to you, too.

Unfortunately, the event and defect history show nothing conspicuous (latest event entries are a few days old, latest defect entries a lot older).

I'd rather not reproduce it right now :) But in principle it should be possible as the production line has a standstill every few months with room to "play".

Does the controller actively request the UI prompt to stop the task? I'd suspected that this is the sole responsibility of FE and transparent from the controller perspective.

Thanks and best regards

Björn

I would have to look up the details. The controller is to a certain degree aware of the download.
Please collect the Windows application event log of the engineering PC used for the download.
Best regards
Jürgen

Thanks, I collected the log. After download starts, there are a lot of errors like:

- Assertion failed: DOB_UpdateBinaryState: invalid bitvalues at I:\DIGIMAT\GRAPH\GRA\DOB\SRC\DOBBUB.C:1187
- Assertion failed: GOB> Object methode does not exist at I:\DIGIMAT\GRAPH\UTIL\GOB\SRC\GOBMETH.C:521
- Assertion failed: GOB> Invalid object handle at I:\DIGIMAT\GRAPH\UTIL\GOB\SRC\GOB.C:1009
- Assertion failed: GOB> Invalid object handle at I:\DIGIMAT\GRAPH\UTIL\GOB\SRC\GOB.C:967

Will submit the log with the case.

Best regards

Björn

A last comment: The .pro File could provide some hints, although it is not very likely after a successful download. The csv-Export does not contain the information about the downloaded domains.
Best regards
