Hello,

no, sorry, you must always uppgrade the controller firmware.

Don´t forget to save running system via the function Load Paramters

before you stop the plant. Saves a lot of job.

Best

Hi,

the answer is a bit complex.

If the database version of Freelance Engineering changes, an export, import and "Load whole station" is required. This is the case when updating from 2016 to 2016 SP1.

If you must stop your process to do a "Load whole station", then you can perform the firmware upgrade anyway while the process is stopped.

If your process allows to do a "Load whole station" without stopping the process, then you could check with Freelance product management whether a firmware update is required or not. Sometimes it is not (but obviously you wouldn't get any corrections or improvements).

In cases where the database doesn't change (most TCs, some SPs) and you have redundant controllers, it could even be possible to update the controllers of a redundant pair one after another (with a switchover inbetween). You would also have to check with Freelance product management if you wanted to do this.

Best regards

Jürgen
