Coated Boards

Is there available option for additional corrosion protection for AC800M and S800IO modules - e.g. coated boards?

As per data sheet AC800M and S800IO are specified as G3 compilant, is it possible to have additional protection against aggresive gases for example?

Hi,
Thanks for the answer. Looking in the G3 compliant specification, seems that coating is a fact. If I remember right, it was an option before

Yes, it's been an option up to 2011.

In our last project we ended up going with Axiolione F modules on Profinet. The XC range is for "extreme conditions". The site (recycled paper mill) had significant corrosion issues due to poor air quality in the plant.

We installed the controllers in a properly air conditioned rack room and the Remote IO modules in the plant where the air quality could not be controlled.

I'm also aware of another site (a geothermal steam power generation with very high sulphur levels) that simply had the boards conformal coated by a local supplier. It voids the warranty, but solves the problem of rotten electronics.

Hi,
Thanks sharing your experience.
Yes, we have a high H2S levels in the air, coming from the water. Unfortunately the controller's cabinets should be in machine room and practically not possible to clean the air. Now the AC400 controllers works there from 20 years but the customer faced with some problems from corrosion last years. I know from ACS drives, that they have additional coating as an option from the factory, but not sure about AC800M. Looked on the WW answer, it should be already done for AC800M and S800

You're going to have to put the Servers in a properly ventilated air con room anyway. The AC800M controllers should go in the same room.

One of our customers has moved to Pre-built server space using shipping containers fitted with UPS and Air con. Its quite impressive and very cost effective for situations like this.
