ABB MOD300 AC460 WITH S800 I/O INIT FAILURE

Dear Rob,

I saw you have been working a lot with ABB MOD300

and I would be glad to share some info with you since I have

a lot of years of experience with MOD300 , since Digital VT220

was the only interface to debug Data Processor failure.

So I should be grateful to you if we could share some info regarding

ABB MOD300 and its functions migratred into the 800xA Platform.

I told you 30 years of experience but this systems always hide strange

behaviour.

I have a system when we have some S800 I/O (DO820) that need to have

an Initial Command at startup of "1" , so the output need to be closed.

The loop that commands this output is processed at "0" (zero)

and it is a 1_IN_2_M_OUT device type.
Whe also need to have "inverted" output the the second channel

(inverted output = 10) because this channel is a stop command of a motor

that is normally closed.

(and the customer does not want to use an additional relay contact :-(.

When we load the AC460 module the cards boot normally but the S7800 I/O modules (DO820) dont go to the desired state .

After initialisation we need to cycle the power OFF/ON and only at this moment

the output goes to the desirded state.

The diagnostics at boot time reports " I/O channel error " when the I/O modules

are loaaded the first time .

What do you think abou this strange behaviour,

Do I need to process the loop in any case to have the revert command

end initial command working ?

Thanks a lot

P.Besazza

PS do you remember the config print flag of RTAB

> A6678 for PU410

> 164478 for internal RTAB

Nice to use it since Ver. 6.3.7 R4 Taylor MOD Systems lol

Sorry, my knowledge of MOD300 is pretty old. I haven't seriously worked on a MOD300 system for many years. Anyway, IMO this behaviour isn't linked to "800xA" - it should be core behavior of the controllers and will happen even on AC460 controllers without an 800xA HMI attached.

I agree, the DO820 channel should immediately go to its "safe" state as soon as the controller boots and the bus initializes. If the DO is already in its safe state then nothing should happen. If this doesn't work properly then it sounds like you've got a (rather serious) bug and you should have a supportline case for this.

Hi , could you verify the catalog number and the PR for the module , CI820 ,also verify the initial command ut you have already done it , if the device loop has Processing Rate 0 sec , try to change it to 1 sec or 2 secs , save it and do the test to see of it works properly I have seen in version 3.7 Sp1 Advabuild and 800xA version 6.0 this behavior but when it was in advant technology works properly according to the findings. Also you may verify OSP conditions from DO820

I hope it helps
